Irene Ave./Peninsula Ave. Project Updates: Paving on August 1st- Final Layer

The contractor for the Irene Avenue Paving Improvements project, Bituminous Roadways, has completed the first layer of pavement for the project and is current working on adjusting the sanitary sewer manhole castings and watermain gate valves to final grade. The second (and final) layer of pavement is scheduled to be placed beginning at 7:00 am on Tuesday, August 1st and will continue through early afternoon.

Here are some steps that you can take to help us make this project a success:
  • Remove all vehicles from the street prior to 6:00 am to allow the contractor to complete the paving operations.
  • Limit trips through the construction zone as much as possible during paving operations and do not drive on newly placed pavement for at least 1-2 hours after the pavement is rolled to allow the surface to cool.
  • Avoid turning the tires on your vehicle when the vehicle is stopped. Turning tires while the vehicle is stopped can cause divots in the pavement that are difficult to remove after the pavement has cooled.
  • Be alert to large construction equipment operating in the area. Many of these vehicles will be backing up and will have difficulty seeing pedestrians.
  • Be sure to pay close attention to children and pets during construction as the surface temperature of the newly placed pavement is very hot and can cause injuries if touched.
  • Turn off your irrigation system to avoid spraying water on the new pavement.

We understand the inconveniences this construction project may have on adjacent residents and we appreciate your patience and understanding. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact our On-Site Construction Representative, Triston Schmalzbauer at 651-238-7580. Thank you for your continued cooperation while we complete this important project.
